Ski touring – Silvretta Alps

  • This tour is ideal for competent off piste skiers who wish to make a first ski tour in the Alps.  The tour is suitable for intermediate Alpine or strong Telemark skiers.

    The tour has been designed with 2 nights in two different huts which will allow us to take in peaks and explore the area.   The huts in the Silvretta are staffed and offer a high standard making the trip a more relaxing experience.  Evening meals and breakfast is included and lunch can be purchased at the huts.

    Touring days will generally include up to four hours of ascent followed by decents of varying lengths and steepness.  With a maximun of six persons per guide this trip is a great opportunity to enjoy  one of the classic ski touring areas of the Alps.  The guides for the Trip are Dave Cumming and Kathy Murphy both experienced and qualified Mountain guides based year round in the Alps.

    Day 1.  Landeck.

    The trip starts on Saturday evening at the Tramershof in Landeck in the Inn valley.  Landeck is easily accessible by train from Zurich or Munich airports.  After dinner we will sort equipment and pack our rucksacks.  For those that wish to travel on Friday evening it is possible to check in to the hotel early and enjoy a days skiing in Landeck.

    Day 2 Heidelberger Hut – 2264m

    After a good breakfast we will transfer by bus from Landeck to Ischgl (50 mins)  Silvretta Bahn. We will need a day pass for the lift system as the day will be spent skiing in and around the resort to get our ski legs and test equipment before descending to the Heidelberger hut for the first night.

    Day 3 Jamtal Hut – 2165m

    We begin the day with an early breakfast before ascending the Breite Krone 3079m summit and cross the Kronenjoch to descend to the Jamtal Hut.  There is 900m of ascent and 1000m of descent on this trip.

    Day 4 Jamtal Hut – 2165 m

    This day has lots of options.  The routes we take will depend upon the weather and snow conditions.  The main summits in the area are the Gemspitze 3114m and Jamspitze 3156m.  We will return to the Jamtal hut for a second night.

    Day 5 Wiesbardener Hut – 2443m

    We depart the Jamtal hut early and cross the Ochenshwarte pass before ascending the impressive Dreilanderspitze 3179m.  From the summit we descent to the well situated Wiesbardener hut at 2443m.

    Day 6 -Wiesbardener Hut – 2443 m

    With two nights in the hut we have a choice of tours available.  These include the Fuorcla dal Cunfin (3042m) and then continue further to the summit of the Egghorn (3147m). If conditions are good we can opt to ascend to the Buinlucke pass and climb the Piz Buin 3312m before descending  back to the Wiesbardener.

    Day 7 – Rouhkopfscharte – Descent to Wirl 1650 m

    This is a great day of descent by first ascending to Rouhkopfscharte and then descend to Bielerhohe and further down to Wirl 1650m.  A great finish to a classic tour.

    We take a bus back to Landeck and overnight back at our hotel.

    Day 8. – Landeck

    Departure for the airport.

    Price per person Kr 13 000,- per person.  Includes; Transport to and from Landeck, 5 nights half board accommodation in huts, 2 nights half board in hotel at Landeck, 6 days guiding by qualified UIGM guide.  Extra costs.  Flights, transfer by train to Landeck, lunch and drinks, ski lift ticket one day Ishgl, equipment hire & personal insurance.  (Austrian Alpine club is recommended)
